The work you want more of 1.Describe the one project you'd clone to fill your whole calendar — what was it, who was the client, and why that one? 2.What kind of work do you turn down, or wish you got less of? 3.What are you proudest of in how you build — the thing you do that most builders don't, or don't do as well?

Who's choosing you, and why 4.When a buyer's deciding between you and another builder, what actually makes them pick you — and do they know that before they call? 5.Picture your ideal client — the person you'd want five more of. Who are they? Local or out-of-state? First custom build, or building their last home? Whatever comes to mind. 6.What do people get wrong about custom building before they talk to you — the thing you explain over and over?

How work finds you now 7.Where do your jobs come from today? Referrals, repeat clients, drive-bys, the Facebook page…? 8.When someone's referred to you, what do they do before they call — ask around, look you up, check Facebook?

What this site needs to do

9.What are your expectations for the site? No wrong answer — it could be finally looking as good online as your work does in person, getting found when someone Googles a builder (or asks ChatGPT), letting people book a call or grab a rough estimate right on the site, or making the right buyer feel like they've already found their builder before they even call. 10.A year after this is live, what makes you say it was worth it? Bigger jobs? Better-fit clients? Work that finds you instead of the other way around? 11.Where do you see JFV headed down the road? Growing it, keeping it steady, selling it or handing it off someday, or eventually just stepping back — it helps us build something that fits where you're going, not just where you are today. 12.Any sites — builders or otherwise, in or out of construction — where something stuck with you? The look, a feature, how it works, the overall feel — whatever made you think "I'd want that."

What’s possible 13.What part of running JFV would you love a website to just… handle? A site can do a lot more than sit there looking sharp these days — it can take real work off your plate and pull in better jobs. Stuff like a competent AI customer assistant that answers the questions you field over and over, an estimator that hands out ballpark quotes while you’re up on a job, a client portal where they follow their own build, easy review-gathering from happy clients, and a scheduler that lets people book a meeting with you right from the site. Then there’s the stuff that really turns heads — describe your dream home in a few words or upload a photo of your lot and watch a photoreal version come to life (it’ll even drop the finished home onto the lot through your phone), 3D walk-throughs that let an out-of-state buyer tour your finished homes from the couch, a cost-as-you-design slider that prices it as they tweak the size and finishes, and a style quiz that pins down their taste. What sounds like it’d actually help — or something you’ve always wished a site could do?

15.How's your photo library? We already pulled some great shots off your Facebook to mock a few things up — but if you've got a stash of high-res project photos or drone footage, that's gold. 16.Got any writing that could become blog or website content? Project write-ups, articles, how-tos, the advice you repeat to clients — the kind of material that helps a site rank in search and brings customers in. Rough or half-finished is fine; even ideas count.

A few last things 17.Got past clients who'd leave a good review or say something nice on the record? No need to chase anyone down now — a rough number's fine, and we'll make collecting them dead-simple later. 18.Anything you're hoping to avoid, or any worry about doing this? After it's live 20.How hands-on do you want to be with it? Some guys want to run it themselves — post photos, reply to reviews, make their own edits. Others would rather hand it off and have it managed. Either way's fine — it tells us whether to build something easy for you to run yourself, or something set up to be managed for you.
